“How to Be a Kodiak” | Capturing the 5th Grade Experience at CHUSD | Work for One Chance Media

We are always eager to help our clients best tell their story - especially when it allows us to design a large mural!

CHUSD came to us, in partnership with One Chance Media, in hopes of creating a mural that would capture the experiences of their 2028 Class. Like many young people around the world, these 5th graders had to overcome learning through a new normal, due to Covid-19. The team at CHUSD wanted to send this class off into the summer with something to look back on, to celebrate all they had overcome, and to leave a lasting impression for future 5th graders.

We realized that, although Covid-19 had a huge impact in this class’ school year, there was much more to be celebrated. We helped the CHUSD team identify the types of content that they were hoping to gather from their students, and broaden the scope to create a more evergreen story. We designed prompts that would help students express what being a Kodiak meant to them - and, hopefully, what it might mean to students for years to come.

After gathering input, we sketched up a rough layout, and refined some illustrations to share with the team. (Aligning on style and level of detail that best tells the story is a key step in our creative process.)

After sketch approval, we moved to illustrating this final product for print!

We are proud to have played a part in commemorating the CHUSD 2028 class, and look forward to telling many more stories, with many more murals!

Have a story you’d like to tell? On a wall? We’re your people.
